The Chinese company Star Vision will launch the Uzbek satellite Samarkand-2028 into orbit.
Chinese company Star Vision will launch two hyperspectral Earth remote sensing satellites on August 5 — Uzbek Samarkand-2028 and Indonesian Lampung-1. The launch will take place from a sea-based launch platform off the coast of Shandong Province, China. The launch window is from 7:00 to 9:00 Tashkent time.
The Samarkand-2028 satellite is equipped with an artificial intelligence module developed by Uzcosmos specialists. It will enable hyperspectral data processing directly in orbit, thereby increasing the efficiency of Earth remote sensing.
The data obtained is planned to be used in agriculture, ecology, and for monitoring natural resources.
According to Uzcosmos, the carrier rocket is already on board the sea-based launch platform and is heading to the launch site.
Uzbekistan and China agreed on the joint launch of the satellite in November 2025 after signing a memorandum between Uzcosmos and Star Vision. The name Samarkand-2028 is associated with the fact that in 2028 Samarkand will host the International Astronautical Congress.
