Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are strengthening their partnership in the field of digital development and communications. During the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Kazakhstan, a meeting was held between representatives of the relevant agencies of the two countries, where joint digital projects were discussed.
The parties reviewed areas of cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, e-commerce, the digital economy, the development of international data transit, and space technologies. A special point of discussion was the project to construct an underground fiber-optic communication line at the Temirbaba–Bekdash border crossing to interconnect the telecommunications networks of the two states.
As a result of the negotiations, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between TNS-Plus LLP and Turkmentelecom regarding the implementation of the cable crossing and further technical cooperation. The creation of a joint working group and the development of project documentation have already been scheduled. Major construction work is expected to be completed within 12 months after the signing of the agreement.
The project has been included in the protocol of the intergovernmental commission and holds inter-state status. It is expected that the project will enhance the digital connectivity of the region and improve the quality of international telecommunications services.
