1. I remind myself who and for what purpose I am creating the product
The most important step in preparing for a pitch, for me, is reminding myself of the main goal: who and for what purpose I am creating the product. When I have the task of presenting my company or solution, I try to eliminate all unnecessary noise in my head, focusing on what lies behind this product. I return to my original vision and remember that our goal is to serve people, solve their problems, and make their lives easier.
For me, this is a key moment. In such moments, I remember that I am creating not just a technology or a business, but a solution for people. For example, in the case of Doro, our solution helps doctors and patients better diagnose skin diseases by providing detailed recommendations on how to approach the treatment of each specific case. This helps doctors make more informed decisions, and patients feel confident knowing they are receiving a personalized solution. This simple truth helps me focus on what is truly important and not lose focus when I have to deal with anxiety or the desire to please the audience. I do not create a product to impress — I create it to make people's lives better. This awareness helps me remain confident and composed before a presentation, even when there are many people on stage.
2. I simplify the message
It is important to be able to convey the main message to your audience without overwhelming them with unnecessary details. When I prepare for a pitch, I often review my presentation and ask myself: "What can be omitted, and what must definitely be kept?" Remember that your audience is probably not as familiar with the product as you are. Simplicity and clarity are the keys.
3. I rehearse and prepare for questions
Refining my speech and preparing for questions is another important stage of preparation. I always anticipate possible questions and prepare answers for them. It is important not only to present the product well but also to be ready to discuss its details, features, and questions about its future.
4. When I don't know the answer — I thank them for a good question
Sometimes, during a pitch, you may be asked questions for which you are not prepared to give an answer. In such moments, I always thank them for an interesting and important question. This not only demonstrates respect for the interlocutor but also helps me put aside anxiety. Then I answer to the best of my knowledge on the topic. It is better to give some kind of answer than to admit that you do not understand your industry, in which you work 24/7. This would be a red flag for an investor. People want to see that you are confident in your business and can provide reasoned and competent information.
5. Mindset of confidence
Speaking in front of an audience is always nerve-wracking, but to keep myself in check, I always remind myself that I am an expert in my field. This is not just a product presentation; it is my opportunity to share what I believe in. I am ready to present a solution that will change people's lives for the better.
6. Visualization of success
Before each pitch, I try to visualize success. I imagine how I will confidently and clearly present my product, how people will be interested and inspired. This helps me reduce stress and set a positive tone.
Pitching is not just a story about a product; it is a story about how you want to change the world. Preparing for a pitch is primarily work on yourself and your message. When you know who and for what purpose you are doing what you do, everything falls into place, and you can convey your passion and confidence to your audience.
