Google announced the launch of the AI Futures Fund — a new initiative aimed at supporting startups that use advanced artificial intelligence tools from Google DeepMind, the company’s research laboratory.
The fund will finance projects at various stages — from early to late — and provide various forms of support, including early access to Google’s AI models, consultations with experts from Google DeepMind and Google Labs, and credits for using Google Cloud. Some startups will be able to receive direct investments from Google.
The AI Futures Fund does not operate according to traditional rounds or stages, but rather considers investment opportunities on an ongoing basis without fixed application deadlines. Google does not disclose the exact size of the fund, noting that the funding amount depends on the startup’s development stage.
The AI Futures Fund is not Google’s only initiative in the field of AI. In recent months, the company has been actively investing in technology development and supporting new projects. In November, Google.org allocated $20 million for research and development in artificial intelligence, and in September, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the creation of a global fund with $120 million to expand access to AI education. An accelerator with $20 million for nonprofits working with artificial intelligence was also launched.
In addition, Google continues to develop the Google for Startups Founders Funds, which supports startup founders from various industries, including AI companies. The fund will begin investing in AI startups in the US, with more detailed information to be announced later.
