Google has released an update for its Google Photos app, introducing a suite of artificial intelligence-powered features designed to simplify photo editing and expand image search functionality worldwide.
The new tools allow users not only to automatically enhance their photos but also to transform them into various styles and find specific images using AI, regardless of language or region.
A key new feature is the introduction of text and voice commands for photo editing for iOS users in the United States. Using AI, users can issue commands such as “remove glasses,” “open eyes,” “change smile,” and more. This feature simplifies the editing process for those without professional image editing skills.
Additionally, a new AI model called Nano Banana has been introduced, enabling users to transform photos into various visual styles. Users can convert ordinary snapshots into retro portraits, cartoon illustrations, or apply other artistic effects, opening up new possibilities for creativity and photo personalization.
To facilitate interaction with AI, an interface featuring an “Ask” button has been introduced, serving as the entry point for AI queries. Through it, users can ask questions about the photo’s content, clarify image details, or directly initiate the editing process.
The AI-powered search feature in Google Photos, previously available only in the United States, has now been expanded to over 100 countries, including regions such as Australia, India, Japan, Brazil, South Africa, and others. AI-powered search now supports more than 17 new languages, including Arabic, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. This allows users from different countries and regions to leverage intelligent search capabilities without language barriers.
