Gemini has learned to read and process comments in Google Docs.
Google continues to expand the capabilities of its AI assistant Gemini in office applications: in addition to generating images and charts, the neural network has been trained to fully work with comments in Google Docs.
Now Gemini can analyze discussions, prepare brief summaries based on them, highlight key topics, identify unresolved issues, and create an action plan for the team. Additionally, the assistant can respond to open comment threads, attach files from Google Drive to them, leave fresh feedback on behalf of the user, and suggest edits in the document text taking into account the comments left.
However, the AI does not make final decisions: it only drafts responses and changes, while publication or editing is always confirmed by the user themselves. The new features, currently available only on paid plans, can be accessed through the side or bottom Gemini panel in Google Docs, and in some cases, the system will automatically offer help in open discussion threads.
