Google's live translation feature in headphones is now available on iOS.
On March 26, 2026, product manager Sasha Kapur announced the launch of the new Live Translate feature in the Google Translate app for iOS. Users can now turn their headphones into a real-time personal translator.
The feature is already available on iOS and is expanding to users on both iOS and Android in several countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. Live Translate supports over 70 languages and allows users to instantly understand spoken conversation directly through any headphones.
According to developers, the feature can be useful in various situations. For example, it helps better understand conversations with family members in other languages—as Kapur notes, such conversations used to feel like watching a movie without subtitles. Now, users can follow along with conversations and jokes in real time.
Live Translate also simplifies travel: users can understand announcements at train stations, receive recommendations, and communicate with others. The technology preserves the intonation and rhythm of speech, conveying not just the words but also the atmosphere of the conversation.
To use the feature, open the Google Translate app, select Live Translate mode, and connect your headphones.
