The director of Singularity Lab announces plans to integrate AI into VR to create educational simulators and consultants. According to forecasts, artificial general intelligence (AGI) will emerge by 2030 based on large language models. The expert anticipates the replacement of professions, the emergence of new specialties, and the implementation of a basic income, emphasizing the importance of regulating and ensuring the safety of technologies.
About Me
I am the Director of Singularity Lab. We specialize in virtual and augmented reality, as well as interactive technologies. We actively integrate artificial intelligence into our work.
I believe that artificial intelligence is the last invention of humanity that will fundamentally transform our society. This is supported by the theory of technological singularity, which inspired the name of our company.
About Singularity Lab
Our primary focus is solving clients' challenges using virtual and augmented reality.
We create training simulators for businesses. We develop various applications and gaming formats. We are exploring the integration of our solutions with artificial intelligence. We plan to combine virtual reality with AI. This will enable users to interact with a virtual consultant in VR who can answer questions or provide assistance during training.
What is Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence has long been integrated into all aspects of human life. For example, it is used in Instagram and other social media platforms. There are two types of AI:
— Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) or general-purpose artificial intelligence
— Strong Artificial Intelligence or superintelligence, which may be created in the future.
Currently, people are focusing on developing AGI — an intelligence that will be an expert in all fields of human knowledge. It must possess clear logical reasoning capabilities comparable to those of humans. We are already close to achieving such AI. In my forecast, it will be created by 2030.
How AI Technologies Work
The technology behind all AI applications, chats, and platforms is LLM, or Large Language Models. These are neural networks running on specialized servers.
The main task of LLM models is to predict the next word in a response. Therefore, they have an interesting flaw. If you ask ChatGPT: "How many words will be in your answer?", it will almost always answer incorrectly.
Advantages of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence has long moved beyond entertainment. Millions of people use AI in their work every day. This provides a competitive advantage that increases employee efficiency. People understand that this is the future and are learning how to integrate it.
Consequences and Risks
A large number of professions will be replaced by artificial intelligence. A similar situation occurred in the early 20th century during industrialization. As then, we will find a solution. Over time, new professions and roles emerge. For example, the profession of Prompt Engineering has recently appeared, whose task is to write prompts for artificial intelligence to achieve more accurate results. I have no doubt that many other professions will emerge.
The development of artificial intelligence will significantly impact society. One potential solution to these problems is universal basic income — a sum paid to everyone, regardless of status, which should cover all necessary living expenses.
Concerns about artificial intelligence are justified. However, the brightest minds in humanity are working to mitigate these risks. This is called alignment — the effort to ensure that the interests of artificial intelligence align with human interests in the future.
The main risk of AI is falling into "bad hands," such as the creation of bio-viruses. Therefore, it is essential to establish regulation that does not hinder technological development.
