Canva acquired MangoAI and Cavalry to enhance AI capabilities and integrate motion design into the platform.
Visual communications platform Canva has announced the acquisition of two companies, MangoAI and Cavalry. The deal aims to expand Canva’s AI capabilities and develop a professional creative toolset.
The acquisition of MangoAI strengthens Canva’s intelligent content marketing direction. The startup specializes in data analysis systems and reinforcement learning, linking creative content with its real-world performance. MangoAI’s solutions enable the automatic improvement of advertising and marketing materials based on their actual results.
As part of the deal, MangoAI co-founder Nirmal Govind, who previously served as Vice President of Data Science and Engineering at Netflix, has joined Canva as its first Chief Algorithms Officer. He will be responsible for personalization and algorithmic products, working closely with the company’s AI lab. MangoAI co-founder Vinith Misra has also joined Canva’s research team and will lead the reinforcement learning division.
The second deal, the acquisition of Cavalry, aims to enhance Canva’s professional creative stack. The UK-based company develops tools for 2D animation and motion design, which are actively used by professional designers. The integration of Cavalry complements the Affinity ecosystem, which Canva acquired earlier, and addresses a key gap—work with animation and motion.
Canva notes that motion design is becoming a fundamental element of modern visual communication, ranging from brand campaigns and social media to corporate marketing and AI storytelling. The integration of Cavalry will allow the combination of photo editing, vector graphics, layout design, and animation within a single professional environment.
The company emphasizes that both teams will retain their key roles in the development of their products, and their expertise will be integrated into Canva’s long-term strategy. As a result, Canva aims to create a fully functional Creative OS for professional designers, marketing, and creative teams, combining advanced tools with intelligent AI systems.
