Apple released iOS 27 with a new Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features

The update also expands Apple Intelligence features, adds new AI tools for working with photos and text, and gives users more control over the Liquid Glass interface.

What’s New in Siri

Siri AI can now use personal context to find information in messages, emails, photos, and other content on the device.

The assistant also understands on-screen information and can perform more actions across apps. Users can ask follow-up questions and continue conversations with awareness of previous context.

iOS 27 introduces a dedicated Siri app where you can revisit previous conversations and continue them on supported Apple devices.

Siri also received new camera scenarios. Visual Intelligence mode allows asking questions about objects and information captured in the viewfinder.

Another feature is Write with Siri. It helps create and edit text, and in Messages and Mail, it can adapt the output to match the user’s style.

New AI capabilities in Siri are available on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 models and newer devices. They are also supported by iPhone Air and iPhone Duo.

AI Has Arrived in Other Features Too

New editing tools have appeared in the Photos app on compatible models.

Spatial Reframing allows changing the composition of a photo by virtually adjusting the camera position. The Extend feature expands the image beyond its original boundaries, and the updated Clean Up tool helps remove larger objects from photos.

Safari now automatically groups tabs by topic. The Notify Me feature can track changes on web pages, such as a product’s price drop or when an item becomes available again.

Liquid Glass Is Now Customizable

Apple has added a separate slider for Liquid Glass in Settings. Users can now choose the level of interface transparency — from fully transparent to the most heavily tinted option.

The company also updated the appearance of icons and certain system elements.

Apple reports improved performance in iOS 27. In its tests, apps launch faster, recently taken photos load more quickly, and file transfers via AirDrop are quicker. Search functionality in Spotlight, Photos, and Mail has also been updated.

Other Changes

iOS 27 includes additional volume controls for alarms and timers, as well as new features for AirPods with Custom EQ support.

Parental Controls and Communication Safety have been updated. The latter enhances protection against images and videos containing violent content.

Call Context can display relevant information during supported business calls, such as booking numbers.

Apple has also expanded the capabilities of accessibility features including VoiceOver, Magnifier, Accessibility Reader, and Voice Control.

You can install the iOS 27 update via Settings → General → Software Update. Before installing, Apple recommends creating a backup of your iPhone using iCloud or a computer.
