One of the largest AI data centers in Central Asia will be built in Uzbekistan
Saudi company DataVolt announced the raising of up to $150 million in non-recourse project financing for the construction and subsequent operation of the TAS-1 data center in Tashkent. Upon launch, the facility will become one of the largest AI-ready data centers in Central Asia.
The financing was provided by four international development institutions: DEG, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, OPEC Fund for International Development, and Proparco. The agreement is for a term of 12 years and aims to support the digital transformation of Uzbekistan within the framework of the state strategy "Digital Uzbekistan – 2030."
The data center is being built on the territory of IT Park Uzbekistan in Tashkent. The facility will provide 12 MW of IT capacity, a 99.982% availability level, and will support liquid cooling systems for high-performance cloud and AI workloads. The first phase is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2026, and the second phase by the end of 2027.
According to DataVolt CEO Rajit Nanda, the project will serve not only as an infrastructure asset but also as a platform for developing local competencies, innovations, and training specialists for the digital economy.
In addition to constructing the data center, the company has partnered with Shirin College and launched a two-year diploma program to train specialists in data centers and digital infrastructure. This initiative aims to develop the country's human capital and support its ambitions to become a regional digital hub.
DataVolt also stated that it plans to source more than 95% of TAS-1's energy consumption from "green" electricity, aligning with the company's strategy to achieve carbon neutrality in data center operations.
DataVolt is headquartered in Riyadh. The company develops data centers and energy infrastructure for hyperscalers, large enterprises, and government organizations, operating in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
