In Armenia, schools and universities will receive 50,000 subscriptions to ChatGPT Edu
Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Zhanna Andreasyan, and a delegation from OpenAI, who arrived in the country, discussed the integration of the ChatGPT Edu platform into Armenia’s education system.
The ChatGPT Edu platform can serve as an effective tool for both higher education—teachers and students—and general education, including teachers and high school students.
The minister emphasized the importance not only of implementing the technology but also of developing a comprehensive policy in this area, including regulation, risk management, and principles for the safe use of AI.
In recent years, initiatives to integrate artificial intelligence and develop AI literacy in Armenia’s education system have been consistently expanded: schools are implementing the “Generation Artificial Intelligence” and STEP.ai programs, and starting in September 2026, Yerevan State University plans to launch a new bachelor’s program in artificial intelligence.
Alina Leon, OpenAI’s representative for partnerships, noted that the key areas of cooperation include promoting the safe and responsible use of AI in education, as well as developing relevant skills among teachers and students.
With the start of the new academic year, Armenia’s educational, engineering, and research communities will receive approximately 50,000 free subscriptions to ChatGPT Edu as part of a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, OpenAI, and Firebird. Preparatory work and training sessions are planned to be conducted by September.
In the initial stage, during the 2026–2027 academic year, access to the platform will be funded by Firebird. After evaluating the program’s effectiveness, the possibility of state funding to permanently integrate ChatGPT Edu into the national education system will be considered.
