Uzbekistan will create an R&D center for $200 million and expand AI infrastructure
Digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence continue to develop in Uzbekistan. A GPU cluster worth $24 million has already been created, and its expansion by an additional $45 million is planned by the end of the year.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on reforms in the field of AI and digitalization.
Separately, an initiative to create an R&D center with a budget of $200 million was presented. The project is planned to be located in the city of Nurota. It includes laboratories, a computing center with 200 GPUs, a startup campus, and a commercialization center. Implementation is scheduled for 2027–2031.
There are also plans to expand the IT Park Uzbekistan network in the regions. New branches will open in Samarkand, Namangan, Syrdarya, and Bukhara.
The country is systematically consolidating more than 130 state databases in the fields of healthcare, energy, transport, taxation, customs, and agriculture. Based on these, a unified digital environment is planned to be created for the implementation of AI solutions.
This is expected to improve the quality of public services, enhance analytics, and reduce costs in the economy.
Particular attention is being paid to employment. By 2030, it is planned to create 300,000 jobs in the IT sector for young people through the development of the digital ecosystem and the growth of IT services exports.
The development of the startup ecosystem is also being discussed. There are already 950 startups in the country, which is 37.5% more than a year ago. Investment volume reached $132 million, and the market is valued at $4.3 billion.
