Tesla has unveiled its first bicycle. However, instead of the anticipated electric bike, the company released a balance bike for children aged two to five. The new product is already available for purchase in Tesla’s official online store for $225.
The balance bike features a lightweight magnesium frame, a seat with five height adjustment levels, the Tesla logo on the frame, and a “T” emblem on the front. The bicycle is not equipped with pedals or an electric motor — the child moves by pushing off with their feet. This format is standard for balance bikes, which help children learn to maintain balance before transitioning to a regular bicycle.
The model is designed for children with a leg length of at least 34.8 centimeters and a maximum weight of up to 35 kilograms. The package also includes tools necessary for assembly.
The price of the new product is significantly higher than that of most similar models on the market, which typically cost between $50 and $120. At the same time, Tesla has positioned its balance bike at the level of premium brands. For comparison, the Woom 1 model sells for $249, and the Strider 14x Sport for $220.
Tesla fans have been waiting for years for the appearance of a branded electric bicycle. Concepts and rumors about a possible Tesla Model B have regularly appeared online, but the company has yet to present such a device. Previously, Elon Musk has repeatedly expressed skepticism about the release of Tesla motorcycles and bicycles, although he has allowed for the possibility of such a product in different years.
For now, the brand’s first bicycle is a model for the youngest users. Meanwhile, other automakers have already presented their own electric bicycles, including BMW, and electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has launched a separate brand, Also, which is engaged in the development of electric bicycles.
