Tesla is preparing to release the first fully autonomous vehicle, the Cybercab.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that production of the fully autonomous Cybercab will begin in April 2026. He made this statement during Tesla's annual shareholders' meeting. According to him, the company has set ambitious production goals.
Musk emphasized that the Cybercab will be Tesla's first vehicle designed from the ground up for fully autonomous driving without human oversight. The model is being built as a "clean slate," optimized for autonomy and minimal ride cost. The Cybercab lacks a steering wheel, pedals, and side mirrors.
Cybercab production will be organized at the Giga Texas factory. The vehicle will serve as Tesla's flagship product for entering the commercial robotaxi market. According to Musk, the project reflects the next stage of the company's development, combining automotive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and mobility services.
Musk noted that the Cybercab production system will be closer to consumer electronics assembly than to traditional automotive manufacturing. This approach, he said, will enable significantly higher vehicle production speeds.
In the long term, Tesla aims to achieve a production rate of less than 10 seconds per vehicle. This means that a line producing approximately 500,000 vehicles annually with a one-minute assembly cycle could theoretically produce up to two to three million Cybercabs per year, and eventually up to five million units if the cycle is reduced to five seconds.
The Cybercab is considered a key element of Tesla's strategy to develop autonomous transportation and create a scalable robotaxi network.
