The company has submitted an application to the international organization ICANN to register the .gram domain zone. If the application is approved, users will be able to obtain personalized web addresses based on their usernames—for example, the @durov account could use the domain durov.gram.
Pavel Durov explained that such domains will enable the creation of interactive websites and landing pages directly within Telegram—launching will be as simple as sending a single message to a bot, without the need for traditional development and hosting.
According to the Telegram team's vision, the new domain zone will transform users' and channels' usernames into full-fledged web addresses that can be used outside the messenger—in browsers, search engines, and links on other platforms.
If ICANN approves the application, the .gram domain zone will become available to more than a billion messenger users.
