Google has opened the ability to launch personal Android apps created via AI in Google AI Studio on Google Play. Updates also include: the AI assistant Ask Play, Game Finder, integration with Gemini, gaming challenges called Sprints, and new Family Link settings.
Google has opened the ability to run personal Android apps created with artificial intelligence on its devices via Google Play. A developer account is not required—only a regular Google account is needed.
Apps are created in the Google AI Studio service using so-called vibe coding: the user describes what they need, and the AI writes the code. The finished app can be installed on the user’s device through Google Play. These apps remain private: they do not appear in search results or the store catalog and are accessible only to their creator. However, they must comply with Google Play policies.
The feature began rolling out on October 13 in several countries for users aged 18 and older. Over the coming months, Google plans to add the ability to share personal apps with a close circle of friends and family. If a user wants to make an app available to everyone, they can switch to a professional developer account—in which case the app will undergo standard security and quality review.
Alongside this, Google announced other updates to Google Play. The AI assistant Ask Play can now compare similar apps, and the Game Finder feature recommends games based on how and what the user plays. Apps and games from Google Play will also appear in conversations with Gemini, and the store has launched 48-hour gaming challenges called Sprints for groups of two to five players.
Additionally, parents will be able to assign an age category to apps for their child via Family Link without revealing the child’s date of birth, so that apps can offer age-appropriate content.
