Kazakhstani startup TaiSan has attracted £4.65 million in investments
British DeepTech startup TaiSan, founded by Kazakhstani Sanzhar Taisan, has raised £4.65 million in a Seed round. The round was jointly led by Eos Advisory and Midlands Engine Investment Fund II through Mercia Ventures, with participation from AFI Ventures, EverQuest Capital Partners, Adeline Arts & Science, Techmind, business angel Francois Badelon, and existing investors. The startup also received an additional £700,000 as a grant from Innovate UK.
TaiSan will use the raised funds to develop its technology, launch pilot tests with leading manufacturers, expand its Cambridge laboratory, and open a new division in Coventry. The company has already signed several letters of intent with potential customers.
TaiSan is developing sodium-ion batteries with its own solid-state polymer electrolyte. According to the company, these batteries are lighter, more compact, and safer than existing sodium-ion and lithium-ion alternatives, and are designed for electric bicycles, electric scooters, transportation, and power tools.
The startup was founded by Sanzhar Taisan, a former electrochemical researcher at Jaguar Land Rover and The Faraday Institution. Prior to this round, the company had raised £1.3 million in Pre-Seed investments and several UK grants for technology development.
