Netflix has released rules for working with AI

Netflix has released updated guidelines for partners and studios using generative artificial intelligence in content creation. GenAI technologies can be a valuable tool, but they must be used “transparently and responsibly.”
Under the new rules:
— AI cannot be used to create digital replicas of actors without their consent
— feeding personal data, scripts, or confidential Netflix materials into neural networks is permitted only with approval
— elements that appear in final content—from posters to characters—require specific legal oversight
— the use of third-party models based on others’ data, including artists’ styles or celebrities’ likenesses, is prohibited without proper permissions.
The company also categorized GenAI applications into low-risk uses—such as brainstorming ideas or creating mood boards—and those requiring written consent, which include key characters, voices, and plot elements.
Netflix aims to maintain a balance between innovation and the protection of rights for creators, actors, and audiences.
