Microsoft has introduced Frontier Tuning — a technology that trains AI to work the way you do.
At the Microsoft Build 2026 conference, the company announced Frontier Tuning — a new approach to adapting artificial intelligence to the processes of a specific organization. The technology applies reinforcement learning within the company’s compliance framework, using its own data, workflows, and corporate agreements.
The system consists of three interconnected components. The first is a managed reinforcement learning environment (RLE), which learns from real-world workflows and evaluation signals without affecting production systems. The second is the company’s corporate data: content, terminology, regulations, and processes that define how the business operates. The third is customized models, skills, and orchestration logic, which remain strictly within the organization’s security perimeter and inherit its access policies.
Frontier Tuning is already available in closed preview through Microsoft’s Forward Deployed Engineers team. Support will soon be added to Microsoft Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry.
