Meta announced the launch of a new AI data center in the United States, costing over $1 billion.
Meta announced the construction of a new data center costing over $1 billion in the state of Oklahoma. The facility will be located in the city of Tulsa and will become the company's first data center in the region focused on artificial intelligence tasks.
The new complex is being developed as specialized infrastructure for AI workloads. The company plans to use it to advance its own AI-based products, including smart devices, language models, and other services.
During the construction phase, the project will create more than 1,000 jobs, and after launch, it will generate approximately 100 permanent positions. Additionally, Meta will invest $25 million in developing local infrastructure, including roads, water supply, and utility systems.
The company also stated its intention to offset the data center's energy consumption through 100% clean energy and to add up to 1,500 megawatts of capacity to the state's power grid. The project will utilize a closed-loop cooling system, which will significantly reduce water consumption.
Furthermore, Meta is launching partnership programs with local colleges and educational institutions to train specialists in digital infrastructure, data analytics, and AI.
The construction of the new facility reflects the intensifying competition among major technology companies for the computing power needed to develop the next generation of AI services.
