The Chairman of the Board of JSC "Kazakhtelecom", Bagdat Musin, announced the company's plans for the development of data centers and AI solutions, comparing its approach with that of the South Korean operator SK Telecom. SK Telecom has separated its infrastructure into a separate company, SK Horizon, attracting approximately $2.2 billion in investments and planning to increase its capacity to 5–15 gigawatts by 2029 and beyond. "Kazakhtelecom," together with the "Samruk-Kazyna" fund, has created the KT-Telecom structure, whose goal is to reach a capacity of one gigawatt by 2030 and increase it to two gigawatts in the future.

SK Telecom has separated its data centers and submarine cables into a separate company, SK Horizon, attracting approximately $2.2 billion in investments while retaining control over the business. Another operator company, SK Hyper, will be responsible for building new data centers for artificial intelligence. By 2029, SK Telecom plans to increase its capacity to five gigawatts, and eventually to 15 gigawatts.
"Kazakhtelecom" is following a similar path. Together with the "Samruk-Kazyna" fund, the company has established KT-Telecom, a structure for developing data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure. The project's goal is to reach one gigawatt of capacity by 2030, and subsequently increase this figure to two gigawatts.
Mussin noted that the example of SK Telecom demonstrates that the approach chosen in Kazakhstan is becoming a global trend—telecom operators are separating data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure into a separate strategic direction.
