Kazakhstani game DarkSwitch has entered the list of the most anticipated releases in the world
Astana Hub participant, Kazakhstani game development studio Cyber Temple, has released the game DarkSwitch. The project is already being compared to global hits in the genre. The music for the game was composed by Japanese composer Akira Yamaoka, author of the soundtracks for the popular Silent Hill series. For the Kazakhstani gaming market, this is one of the bright examples of collaboration with a cult artist.
The project has already attracted significant attention from an international audience: more than 230,000 users added the game to their wishlist even before its release. DarkSwitch entered the top 5 most anticipated projects of the week in its genre and took eighth place among all anticipated city builders worldwide.
DarkSwitch is a city-building simulator and economic strategy set in a dark fantasy world. The player's task is to ensure the survival of the settlement by building a city around giant trees that protect against the deadly threat of an approaching mystical fog. The game combines a well-thought-out setting, expressive characters, and a storyline where decisions affect not only the development of the city but also the fates of the heroes.
According to CEO and founder Alexey Nazarov, a multinational team of more than 50 specialists worked on DarkSwitch, more than half of whom are Kazakhstani. Specialists from CIS countries, Spain, Poland, Serbia, the USA, the UK, China, and Japan also participated in the development.
A key feature of the project is the vertical architecture of the city: limited space requires the creation of multi-level infrastructure. The game features more than 80 types of buildings and several technological levels. Special attention has been paid to the artistic aspect—all graphics are hand-drawn, which enhances the unique style and atmosphere of the project.
The game is targeted at highly competitive premium markets. It already supports six localization languages: English, French, German, Chinese, Russian, and Polish, as well as two voiceover languages: English and Russian. Creating a global product, the studio continues working on the already announced localization into Kazakh. It is important for the team that every time gamers around the world download the game, they see the flag of Kazakhstan. The release of DarkSwitch shows that Kazakhstani game development is entering a new stage of growth. In the country, a pool of developers capable of creating products in demand on the global market and competing for the attention of an international audience is forming.
