Kazakhstan plans to build a large data center with a capacity of up to 200 MW
As part of the international technology forum GITEX AI, the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of cooperation with an international consortium comprising Dornan Engineering Group in collaboration with Turner Construction Company and JMOT04.
The document provides for the implementation of a project to construct a highly reliable Tier III–Tier IV data center in Kazakhstan. The planned capacity of the facility will range from 50 to 200 MW. At the same time, the estimated investment volume for constructing a Tier IV data center with a capacity of 200 MW is estimated at between $1 and $1.5 billion.
To ensure stable and independent power supply for the project, the construction of a gas-fired power plant with a capacity of up to 250 MW is planned. Investments in this facility are estimated at between $200 and $400 million USD. The implementation of this project is planned to be carried out by Ample Solution Limited.
At the current stage, the most suitable location for construction is being selected. Priority is given to sites located near gas infrastructure, which will enable efficient electricity generation and high operational reliability.
According to Zhaslan Madiev, Kazakhstan has a favorable geographical location, favorable climatic conditions, and competitive electricity costs, which create a solid foundation for hosting international data centers and developing digital infrastructure.
The implementation of the project is aimed at developing the country's digital infrastructure, attracting foreign investment, and strengthening Kazakhstan's position as a regional technology hub.
