What professions will become popular in 10 years — and what you need to know today
The world of work is changing faster than we think. In ten years, professions that don't exist today will emerge, from AR travelers to smart home specialists.

Organ Creator
According to the New Zealand-based website Crimson Education, the shortage of donor organs will lead scientists to begin creating them from stem cells and other new materials. This work will require education in molecular biology, biomedical engineering, or tissue engineering.
Augmented Reality Travel Creator
Building on concepts developed in the film "Total Recall" and the series "Westworld," AR travel creators will allow clients to virtually experience anything they desire. This role will require a degree from a film school, as well as experience with massive multiplayer online games.
According to Cognizant in the article "21 Jobs of the Future," AR travelers will "design, write, create, calibrate, gamify, build, and, most importantly, personalize the next generation of captivating stories and instant scenes" for affluent clients.
Metaverse Planner
Among the first jobs related to the metaverse were standard retail positions—for example, Meta has already opened a store in California selling VR and AR devices. In the future, the metaverse will continue to evolve and create new professions, including the metaverse planner. Such a specialist will manage projects—from concept to implementation. They will need management skills, an entrepreneurial mindset, and education related to metaverse technologies.
Biofilm Installer
Biofilms are clusters of microbes on moist surfaces. They are sticky, unpleasant, and difficult to handle, and can be a source of infection. However, they can be used for wastewater treatment, oil spill cleanup, and energy production. Biofilm installers will work with microbes that, for example, eliminate mold in homes or help process waste.
Earthquake Forecaster
The profession of earthquake predictor has been considered a future job for at least 50 years. In the 1970s, many scientists stated that accurate and timely earthquake prediction would soon be possible. Five decades have passed, and the situation remains the same—accurate predictions are still not available. However, in recent years, machine learning has begun to be actively used in seismology, giving hope that companies and governments will soon be able to hire specialist forecasters.
Temporary Structure Engineer
In the future, temporary structure engineers will use 3D printing to construct temporary shelters for people affected by natural disasters or wars. Using 3D printing, components for small residential modules, similar to trailers, can be created within hours or days to quickly assemble housing for those in need. Engineers will need knowledge in industrial design and construction engineering.
Algorithmic Bias Auditor
Algorithms control a large part of 21st-century life—from Spotify's music recommendations to Tinder's dating options. The modern hiring process—from which job listings are shown to applicants to which candidates the ATS system suggests to recruiters—is also managed by them. Algorithmic bias auditors will have education in computer science or data analysis.
Nature Restorer
These are specialists who can transform cities with concrete buildings into green zones. They will work on mitigating the effects of two centuries of industrialization, replacing old factories, unnecessary buildings, roads, and fences with forests and native plants. This profession will require education in agriculture, wildlife management, and ecology.
Human-Machine Interaction Manager
Such managers will identify tasks, processes, and systems that can be improved with new technologies. They will devise new ways of working, allocate roles between humans and machines, and establish rules for their interaction. This work requires knowledge in experimental psychology or neuroscience, as well as experience in computer science, engineering, or HR.
Digital Currency Consultant
With the growing interest in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum, investors have encountered significant opportunities—and potential risks—in unregulated financial instruments. Digital currency consultants will have education in accounting, financial management, and information security.
Drone Traffic Optimizer
Once a novelty, drones now film movies, wage wars, patrol neighborhoods, and deliver packages. In ten years, they will be everywhere. Someone will need to control their routes to prevent complete chaos. In the US, NASA and FAA handle this issue at the national level. Drone traffic optimizers will work at the local level.
Autonomous Vehicle Mechanic
Future fleets of autonomous vehicles from companies like Tesla, Waymo, GM, Hyundai, Cruise, Pony.ai, and Ford will operate independently. However, they will not repair themselves. Mechanics who maintain them will combine a traditional love for fixing things with advanced technological understanding.
Smart Home Design Manager
Once, the "home of the future" was only shown at exhibitions, but now it is reality. Modern homes automatically adjust lighting, temperature, and security. The profession of smart home design manager will develop rapidly as homes are built or renovated with home offices, properly positioned routers, soundproofing, and separate voice inputs. Such managers will be trained in homes with advanced knowledge in AI, robotics, and architecture.
Flexible Supply Chain Employee
In the global and online economy, companies must respond quickly to changes in supply and demand. Candidates for this position will be sought with education in supply chain management and logistics. Military veterans with SCM experience will also be in high demand.
Waste Engineer or Waste Designer
According to the UN, humanity produces over 2 billion tons of waste annually, and storage space is running out. Future waste engineers will seek solutions for recycling and reusing waste. Working in this field will require education in materials science and industrial design.
