Meta views Muse as a key bet on AI agents for users, competing with Google and Anthropic.
Meta's new AI agent Muse was downloaded more than 83,000 times in the US App Store within the first few days after its launch. According to analytics firm Sensor Tower, this allowed the app to climb to second place in the ranking of the most popular apps in the US.
Currently, Muse is available only in the US. The launch was less massive than that of other Meta apps. On the day Threads launched, it was downloaded more than 4.3 million times in the US, while the Meta AI app received about 108,000 downloads.
The app continues to rise in the App Store rankings. On Wednesday, it held fourth place, and on September 10, it moved up to second position. On Android, the results are currently much more modest. Muse ranks 338th in the Productivity category on Google Play. Data on the number of downloads for Android is not yet available.
Additionally, Muse works via a web version and through WhatsApp, but these metrics were not included in Sensor Tower's statistics.
Meta views Muse as one of the company's key bets on developing AI agents for everyday users. Such systems are designed to perform tasks on behalf of a person, rather than just responding to queries.
In this area, Meta competes with other major companies. Google is developing Gemini Spark, and Anthropic is working on Claude Cowork. Among independent players is Instinct, an AI agent that operates via text messages and was recently valued at $2.5 billion.
Muse's performance may also be influenced by user attitudes toward Meta's privacy policy. To function, the agent requires users to provide the company with more personal information. The launch occurred shortly after Meta agreed to a multi-billion-dollar settlement of a class-action lawsuit related to the impact of social media on users.
