IBM plans to significantly increase the number of junior positions in 2026
IBM plans to triple its hiring of entry-level employees in the US in 2026, despite concerns that the development of artificial intelligence is reducing job opportunities for young professionals.
The company does not disclose exact figures, but reports that the hiring expansion will cover a wide range of divisions. The decision was made after a review of entry-level roles, which have changed significantly in recent years under the influence of artificial intelligence. The company notes that many tasks previously performed by junior employees are now automated, so new positions involve different responsibilities and greater practical value for the business.
As a result, the responsibilities of junior employees at IBM have shifted from routine tasks to more complex and practical ones. For example, junior developers now spend less time writing standard code and more time interacting with clients. In HR departments, entry-level employees are increasingly involved in handling cases where chatbots cannot manage requests, adjusting responses and interacting with managers.
IBM's decision comes amid growing discussions about the future of entry-level positions in the context of AI development. Earlier, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that up to half of office entry-level jobs could disappear by 2030.
At IBM, on the other hand, it is believed that reducing the hiring of young specialists could lead to a shortage of mid-level managers in the future. In this case, companies would have to poach employees from competitors, which is more expensive and requires more time for adaptation.
