Google has introduced a faster and more accessible image generation model, Nano Banana 2 Lite.
Google has released Nano Banana 2 Lite, a new version of its AI-based image and video generation tool. According to the company, this model is significantly faster and more affordable than its predecessor.
The model features low latency and can generate an image in four seconds, making it a convenient tool for rapid refinement and large-scale content creation. The cost is $0.034 per 1,000 images, making it cost-effective for those producing content at scale.
The release continues the lineup that began with the original Nano Banana based on Gemini 3.1 Flash, and follows the February launch of Nano Banana 2, which introduced more realistic image generation. Google also offers a more powerful and expensive model for complex tasks, Nano Banana Pro. While Nano Banana 2 is considered a versatile workhorse, the Lite version is optimized for high-speed, high-volume workflows.
Amid criticism of so-called AI slop, companies continue to invest heavily in image and video generation tools. Google traditionally positions its models as user-friendly tools for advertising creation. Meanwhile, ties between Hollywood and AI companies continue to strengthen: recently, Google signed a $75 million deal with independent film studio A24, which sparked noticeable dissatisfaction among some viewers and creators.
Nano Banana 2 Lite is now available in Google AI Studio, via the Gemini API, and on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. It replaces the previous Nano Banana, which Google now considers a legacy model.
