The app became Google's 14th product to reach such a milestone.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Gemini has surpassed the mark of one billion active monthly users and is among the company's fastest-growing services.
In terms of growth rate, the app has caught up with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which reached the same milestone in June 2026.
Google has been consistently integrating Gemini into its products — from Search and Workspace to Android and a standalone app. AI Mode in Search is also used by more than one billion people per month, but the new figure refers specifically to the app and does not include the audience from other channels.
At the same time, the company is releasing new models and features. Among them is Gemini 3.5 Flash, which Google describes as stronger in programming and autonomous agentic tasks.
The company also revealed data on how people interact with the assistant: 63% of users communicate with it via voice, and the service generates more than 150 million images daily. On iOS, Gemini has more than 100 million active users.
The announcement came shortly after the second quarter 2026 report, in which Google reported more than 950 million monthly users and a threefold increase in daily active users over the year. Further announcements are expected at the Made by Google event, where the company will unveil new Gemini-based features for Pixel devices.
