"Elk Bank" and Tencent have agreed to develop QR payments between Kyrgyzstan and China
“Eldik Bank” signed a memorandum of understanding with Tencent at the Shaanxi Silk Road Expo, becoming the first and only bank in Kyrgyzstan to conclude such an agreement with the WeChat ecosystem.
The signing reflects a new stage of economic and digital cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China. In recent years, there has been steady growth in bilateral trade, tourist flows, and cross-border financial transactions. The implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which is forming a key regional transport and logistics corridor, provides additional impetus to this development.
A key area of partnership will be the integration of QR payments between JSC “Eldik Bank” and WeChat Pay. This will allow users of the Eldik app to pay for goods and services in China, while WeChat Pay users will be able to make familiar payments within Kyrgyzstan, creating a unified seamless payment environment for citizens, tourists, and businesses.
Additionally, the parties are considering the development of cross-border transfers and settlements in national currencies, including the Chinese yuan, which is particularly relevant against the backdrop of growing trade turnover between the countries.
Cooperation with Tencent opens access to advanced FinTech solutions and international expertise in the field of digital payments, laying the foundation for long-term strategic partnership.
Currently, a delegation from Eldik Bank is participating in the Shaanxi Silk Road Expo, where Board Member Aijan Karieva is representing the bank, presenting its activities and investment attractiveness.
Furthermore, as part of the visit, a number of meetings were held with China Construction Bank, where the parties discussed joint solutions for businesses in Kyrgyzstan and China.
Kyrgyzstan is strengthening its role as a platform for regional cooperation in Central Asia, and in this context, “Eldik Bank” acts as a reliable financial partner, building a digital financial bridge between Kyrgyzstan and China.
