EABR opened an office in Uzbekistan
Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, stated that the bank views Uzbekistan as one of the most dynamically developing economies in the region. Over the past 20 years, the EDB has implemented 326 projects, and the bank's total portfolio has reached $19.6 billion. Now we are ready to offer this experience to Uzbekistan as well. By 2031, the EDB plans to invest up to $1.5 billion in the country's economy, including approximately $800 million in projects with high integration potential.
The Eurasian Development Bank officially opened its representative office in Uzbekistan. The ceremonial event took place in Tashkent as part of the EDB Day.
The opening of the office marks the next stage of cooperation following Uzbekistan's accession to the EDB in 2025. The bank is now commencing full-scale investment activities in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev delivered a welcome address at the ceremony. He congratulated the EDB on its 20th anniversary and noted that the opening of the representative office would be an important step in strengthening the partnership between the bank and the republic.
According to him, the EDB has significant experience in infrastructure financing, export support, financial market development, and digital transformation—areas that are currently key to the economy of the New Uzbekistan. The permanent presence of the bank in Tashkent, Khodjayev emphasized, will accelerate the implementation of joint projects in the mining industry, transport infrastructure, digital technologies, and water management.
The current portfolio of projects under consideration covers energy, logistics, and industry. During the ceremony, the bank signed the first agreements on projects in Uzbekistan. Details about the documents will be provided separately.
The opening of the EDB's representative office in Tashkent is expected to enable the bank to more efficiently support investment projects, expand interaction with government bodies and businesses, and more actively attract international investors to the Uzbek economy.
