Azercell and AWS have developed a platform for training AI models in the Azerbaijani language.

Azercell Telecom, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services, has developed a technological platform ready for practical use in training large language models in the Azerbaijani language.

The project was presented by AWS as a showcase example and published on the company’s official website, demonstrating how modern cloud technologies and AI solutions can be adapted for languages with limited digital data availability. For the country, this holds particular significance: creating artificial intelligence systems capable of understanding and processing the Azerbaijani language is an important component of Azerbaijan’s digital transformation and technological progress.

The Azerbaijani language presents significant challenges for AI model training due to its complex grammar and relatively small corpus of available training materials. The jointly developed platform helps address this challenge by improving training efficiency and enabling models to process a substantially larger volume of text in Azerbaijani.

This initiative reflects a global trend: telecommunications operators and major technology corporations—hyperscalers—are pooling resources to accelerate the development of cloud, data, and AI services. For Azercell, this partnership marks another step in transitioning from a traditional telecommunications model to that of a technology-oriented digital company.

The localization of AI solutions for the Azerbaijani language is being carried out in accordance with the “Strategy for Artificial Intelligence of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025–2028.” The created platform will serve as a foundation for further development of the company’s AI products—intelligent virtual assistants, chatbots, and other digital services aimed at improving service quality and personalizing user experience.

By investing in the development of technologies for its native language, Azercell not only enhances its own digital competencies but also contributes to the formation of the nation’s digital ecosystem and the country’s innovative potential.
