At the 86th ICANN Public Policy Forum in Seville, the Azerbaijan Agency for Information and Communication Technologies and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) signed a memorandum of understanding. The document formalizes cooperation in the fields of internet governance, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.
Under the agreement, the parties plan to jointly develop educational programs on the domain name system, conduct seminars on network security and resilience, and support the participation of Azerbaijani representatives in ICANN’s international policy-making processes. A separate area of focus will be the promotion of Universal Acceptance principles—a standard that ensures the proper functioning of domain names and email addresses in local languages and scripts.
The memorandum also provides for the exchange of experience among government bodies, the academic community, businesses, and technical specialists. The parties expect that the agreement will strengthen the competencies of local experts and accelerate the implementation of the country’s digital agenda.
