Apple launches programs to reduce plastic waste in India
Apple announced the launch of new environmental initiatives in India, aimed at promoting renewable energy, reducing plastic waste, and supporting green entrepreneurship.
One of the key projects is a partnership with CleanMax, one of India's largest renewable energy developers. Apple is investing 100 crore rupees to create over 150 megawatts of new clean energy capacity. According to the company, this volume will be sufficient to power approximately 150,000 households annually.
The company is also expanding its collaboration with the environmental organization WWF-India to develop waste recycling systems and prevent plastic pollution. As part of the initiative, material sorting and recycling centers with a full tracking system are being established to reduce plastic entering the environment. The project is already underway in Goa and will be expanded to other regions, including Coimbatore.
Additionally, Apple, together with the Acumen Fund, will support six environmental startups working in the fields of waste recycling, circular economy, and sustainable agriculture. Entrepreneurs will receive grants, mentoring support, and access to an expert network to scale their projects.
Apple stated that these new initiatives will help the company move closer to its goal of becoming fully carbon neutral by 2030. According to the company, since 2015, Apple has already reduced global greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60%, despite a 78% increase in revenue.
