Almaty Cyber Games 2025: How Esports Is Becoming the New Language of Youth
Author - Mansur Ismagulov
The roar of the arena, flashes of screens, tension in the air. At the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace, thousands of spectators watched the final of Almaty Cyber Games International 2025. On stage were not musicians or fighters, but esports athletes. They played Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and EA Sports FC 25. This is not just a competition, but a reflection of changes in the cultural and technological fabric of the region.
From campuses to the international stage
When a team of enthusiasts launched the first season of Almaty Cyber Games in 2022, the idea seemed local. Today, it is the largest esports project in Central Asia, bringing together teams from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The tournament grew like a digital startup — through university communities, student leagues, and enthusiast initiatives.
Over three years, ACG has transformed into an ecosystem where hundreds of students, gamers, and IT specialists learn to work in teams, analyze, build strategies, and earn their first prize money.

Rakhmatullo Saidullaev, President of the National Association of Student Esports
We see how a hobby turns into a profession, and gaming becomes a tool for thinking. This is the goal of ACG: to develop a new generation for whom success is measured not only by victories but also by future-ready skills.
The Kulibaev Foundation: Esports as an Investment in Human Capital
The main partner of Almaty Cyber Games International 2025 was the Halyk Charitable Foundation of Timur Kulibaev.
For the foundation, known for its educational and social projects, esports is not a random choice. It is part of the concept of "smart philanthropy," where the focus shifts from aid to developing human potential.

Nariman Abilshaikov, Managing Director of the Foundation
Esports is no longer the future; it is the present. Video games develop concentration, thinking, and reaction. We support this direction because we see it as a tool for the digital development of young people.
In 2025, the Halyk Foundation of Timur Kulibaev became the general partner of several esports projects — from student leagues to international finals. Support included arena equipment, stable internet connections, live broadcasts, and university engagement. Thus, a complete infrastructure for digital sports is being formed, where education, technology, and culture converge in one place.
University Ecosystem and City Support
A key role in the development of ACG was played by the university alliance of the NNEF Foundation, uniting leading Kazakhstani universities — IITU, AITU, KBTU, UIB, and Energo University.
Together with the Digitalization Department of the Almaty City Akimat, this alliance has turned esports into a platform where education, IT, and entrepreneurship intersect.
ACG International 2025 became a vivid example of how a university environment can become a driver for the digital industry.
Tournament participants gain not only competitive experience but also practical knowledge — from event organization to analytics and streaming monetization.

7 million tenge, thousands of spectators
The final took place in Almaty on October 4 with full stands.
The prize fund was 7 million tenge, including 1 million for fan activities.
Winners:
— Counter-Strike 2: Team NOVAQ — 3 million tenge
— Dota 2: Omega Cyber Lounge — 700,000 tenge
— EA Sports FC 25: 1erdaaa — 500,000 tenge.
Thousands of fans participated in interactive zones, mini-tournaments, and quizzes. The final turned into a true festival of digital culture, where the boundaries between spectator and player blur.
Regional Impact: Digital Energy of Central Asia
Esports has long ceased to be just entertainment.
In Central Asia, it is becoming a new language of interaction between youth, business, and education.
Thanks to tournaments like ACG, a generation is forming that thinks in digital terms — from UX to Big Data. Kazakhstan is rapidly becoming part of the global digital culture, not by copying, but by creating its own formats.
When thousands of students, gamers, and IT enthusiasts gather in one arena, it becomes obvious: the digital future has arrived — and its voice comes from Kazakhstan.
