On October 29, an Airbus A321LR flight departed from Almaty to Tashkent, and passengers were able to use Wi-Fi throughout the entire flight.
The project was implemented in collaboration with the international satellite communications operator SES. Air Astana specialists installed the equipment on the aircraft at the company's own technical base. By the end of 2027, Wi-Fi will gradually become available on all of the airline's Airbus A321LR aircraft.
Until January 31, 2027, in-flight internet is free for all passengers. Starting February 1, free Wi-Fi will remain available only to business class passengers and Nomad Club members with Gold and Diamond status. Other Nomad Club participants will be able to use messengers for free, while other passengers will be able to purchase a paid internet package.
The Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development set the task of bringing internet access to trains and airplanes as early as last year. Satellite communications are already operational on railways, and now they have also appeared in aviation. To achieve this, the ministry, together with satellite communications operators and market participants, amended legislation and requirements for low-orbit satellite systems, including special conditions for air and water transport.
In the future, satellite communications may also become available in remote and hard-to-reach areas of Kazakhstan.
