Top Anthropic News of the Month: New Claude Model, Design Tool, and Google Investment
April 2026 was one of the most eventful months for Anthropic: the company released a new flagship model, launched a visual design tool, united major technology corporations to defend against cyber threats — and received a $40 billion investment from Google. Here are the four main events.
Claude Opus 4.7
On April 16, Anthropic introduced Claude Opus 4.7, a new flagship model that represents a significant leap forward compared to Opus 4.6 in complex programming and long, multi-step tasks. The model can independently verify its own responses before sending them and process complex instructions with high accuracy. Opus 4.7 features improved vision: it perceives images at higher resolutions and creates higher-quality interfaces, slides, and documents. The model is available through all Claude products, the API, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry at the same price as Opus 4.6: $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens.
Claude Design — AI Design Tool
On April 17, Anthropic launched Claude Design, a new product from Anthropic Labs that enables the creation of visual materials such as designs, prototypes, presentations, and one-pagers. The tool is powered by Claude Opus 4.7 and is available in an early access preview for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. When connected to a team's codebase and design files, Claude automatically applies corporate color schemes, typography, and components to every project. Supported use cases include interactive prototypes, developer handoff wireframes, marketing materials, and exporting finished presentations to PPTX or Canva.
Project Glasswing — AI-Powered Cybersecurity
Anthropic announced Project Glasswing, an initiative to protect critical software, which has brought together AWS, Apple, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Cisco, JPMorgan Chase, and other companies. The catalyst for this initiative is the new closed-source Claude Mythos Preview model, which has already discovered thousands of critical vulnerabilities, including in every major operating system and browser. Project participants will gain access to Mythos Preview for defensive purposes, and Anthropic is allocating up to $100 million in model usage credits, as well as $4 million in direct donations to open-source software protection organizations.
Google to Invest Up to $40 Billion in Anthropic
Google has confirmed its intention to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic: $10 billion will be paid immediately, with the remaining $30 billion contingent on meeting certain performance milestones. This comes amid the company's rapid growth: Anthropic's annual revenue has exceeded $30 billion, compared to approximately $9 billion at the end of 2025. The deal expands the long-standing partnership between the two companies: Google provides access to Claude models through its cloud services and supplies custom TPU chips as an alternative to Nvidia GPUs. The rapid growth of the consumer user base has placed significant strain on Anthropic's infrastructure, and the raised funds will help expand computational capacity in the coming months.
