Perplexity Features: Hidden Functions That Few People Use
Most people use Perplexity as a smart search engine. But inside the tool, there are features that aren't mentioned in reviews because some of them appeared without announcements. Let's look at each of them in more detail.
Perplexity remembers you between sessions
When you study a topic for weeks, every new conversation starts from scratch—you have to re-explain the context. No longer. The memory engine has been updated, and the accuracy of retrieving relevant details has increased from 77% to 95%. The tool accumulates your working context like a good analyst. You can ask directly: “Based on what I’ve researched over the last 30 days, what should I focus on?”.
Set it up once—no more explaining who you are
Most people never go to Settings → Personalization. There, you can specify your profession, provide persistent instructions, choose response length, and enable search history usage. After that, every response automatically considers your context. It takes 60 seconds and works with every subsequent query.
Old threads are found by meaning, not exact words
In the past, if you didn’t remember exactly how you phrased a query—finding the right conversation was nearly impossible. Now, history search understands meaning. Type roughly what the conversation was about—and it finds it. It also immediately shows a preview of the relevant message within the thread and directs you straight there.
Perplexity can teach you, not just answer
This feature was hidden in student accounts and few people knew about it. Now it’s open to everyone. Click the plus button in the input field → More → Learn step by step. Instead of giving a direct answer, it guides you through the topic with questions and explanations tailored to your level. You can immediately request a quiz with adjustable difficulty—useful when you want to truly understand, not just read.
Search that works while you sleep
The most underrated feature. You write a prompt once, set a schedule—daily, weekly, or monthly—and Perplexity automatically runs the search at the specified time and sends you a notification with the ready result. No manual monitoring required.
Set up via the left panel — Notifications → Scheduled Searches. One well-written prompt with instructions on what to search for, what to exclude, and how to structure the output—and you get a daily briefing on your topic of interest.
Stock heat map with explanations on hover
In the Finance tab, there’s a map of top stocks. But the real feature isn’t the map itself—it’s that hovering over any company instantly shows a live explanation of what’s happening with the price and why, taking into account current news. Not just a number, but context. Works on desktop and mobile browsers.
Any number from a report leads directly to the SEC document
When Perplexity mentions a financial figure for a company—you can click on it and go directly to the relevant section in the official SEC document. No need to search for PDFs and flip through 80 pages. One click—and you’re at the source.
Your emails and files as part of search context
Perplexity connects directly to Gmail, Slack, and Google Drive. This means you can ask questions that simultaneously consider your real data and current information from the internet. For example, compare an internal document with what’s happening in the industry—and get one coherent answer.
